ALBANY - A conservative-oriented Web site has
decided Democratic Attorney General Eliot Spitzer's
alleged penchant for threatening critics is a moneymaker - at
least when it comes to T-shirts, mugs, buttons and
even shoulder bags.
Under the heading, "Annoy a Liberal," the site
has just listed a range of products linked to allegations
that Spitzer, who is seeking his party's nomination
for governor, threatened Lower Manhattan Development
Corp. Chairman John Whitehead and others in the wake
of disagreements.
Several of the items carry such slogans as, "I
was threatened by Eliot Spitzer," and "Eliot Spitzer
threatened my little sister."
At www.fcbcapparel.com, the Web site, products
are offered with the slogan: "Buy Eliot Spitzer merchandise.
We're not threatening, we're asking nicely."
"I don't think there's anyone in New York who hasn't
been threatened by Spitzer," quipped Web-site owner
Bryan McCarthy.
McCarthy claimed the Spitzer merchandise began
selling briskly from the moment it was put
on the Web a few days ago.
Spitzer has denied threatening Whitehead and the
others, although he has conceded he engaged
in heated conversations.
Spitzer spokesman Darren Dopp insisted the attorney
general wasn't bothered by the new offerings,
noting, "Eliot's
likeness has been featured on T-shirts, coffee mugs
and even Halloween masks."
